21 May A New Legacy: Mari’s Story

Every so often, we witness a transformation so powerful, it reminds us exactly why Living Alternatives exists.
Mari’s story is one of those moments—a beautiful testimony of hope, healing, and the power of God’s redemptive love.

Mari first came to our Building Blocks program when she was just 16 years old. Life wasn’t easy. She faced overwhelming challenges—yet she kept showing up. And every time she did, we welcomed her with open arms, offering a safe space, a listening ear, and consistent, Christ-centered support.

This past year, something began to change.

Her mentor remained faithfully by her side—speaking truth, affirming her identity in Christ, and gently pointing her toward God’s heart for family and purpose. Little by little, Mari began to believe in something more for her life. She started to dream of a future built not on survival, but on stability, love, and legacy.

“You were taught… to put off your old self… to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God…”

Through her Building Blocks appointments, Mari engaged with parenting videos that reflected God’s vision for the home. She began to see herself—and her future—through His eyes.
She gave her life to Christ.

And then something extraordinary happened.

Her mentor recently witnessed a milestone that brought tears of joy: Mari married the father of her youngest children—twins.
But the story doesn’t end there.

Today, Mari and her husband attend church together as a family. He has embraced not only his role as a father to their twins but as a father figure to all of Mari’s children.

What a picture of redemption.
What a testimony of grace.
