22 Apr Cheri’s Story: From Fear to Hope
Cheri came to us just after receiving the news of a positive pregnancy test—one of life’s most defining and disorienting moments. Uncertainty filled her voice, but our nurses met her with calm compassion, offering a quiet space and a simple, powerful conversation starter:
“You have three choices we can discuss today. Would you like to talk about pregnancy? We can also talk about abortion or adoption. What’s on your mind?”
Cheri didn’t hesitate.
“I want to talk about abortion,” she said plainly. “I don’t want a baby. I don’t want anything to do with the baby’s dad. I just want it gone.”
There was no judgment—only compassion, respect, and truth. Our nurse and advocate gently explained what abortion would involve at this stage and invited her to think ahead, asking how she might feel in the weeks, months, and years to come.
Before Cheri left, the nurse made two heartfelt requests:
-
“Would you read through all the information I’m giving you about abortion?”
-
“Would you come back next week for an ultrasound?”
Cheri agreed.
And the following Wednesday, her name was back on our schedule. When she walked through the doors, something had shifted. She was smiling.
“I read all the information,” she said. “And I’ve decided to keep the baby.”
Cheri couldn’t wait to see the heartbeat—she saw life.
Today, she’s enrolled in our Building Blocks program, courageously stepping into motherhood with the support and encouragement she needs. We’re walking with her, just like we walk with every mom and dad who walks through our doors.
Stories like Cheri’s remind us why we are here: To provide a opportunity for lives to move from fear to courage, from uncertainty to hope, from death to life.
