God Does Beautiful Things with Hard Things
Lexi’s Adoption Story of Hope
At Living Alternatives, we see every day how God can turn a difficult journey into an adoption story of hope.
Her name was Vanetta.
She grew up in a very difficult and trying home where she was emotionally and physically abused and even trafficked from a young age. Her escape was through drugs and addiction, and over time, that road led to four unplanned pregnancies.
During each pregnancy, she came to Living Alternatives for help.
By baby number four, Vanetta was carrying more than just a child. She was also carrying anxiety, grief, and fear. The questions she was contemplating felt impossible:
- Do I walk through the pain of adoption?
- Do I face the grief and loss of abortion?
- Do I try to raise this child on my own?
It felt like there was no easy path. However, what Venetta actually found was love and support.
“Hi, I’m Lexie.”
Hi, I’m Lexie. I was born March 23, 2007.
In the week after I was born, Carol from Loving Alternative continued to offer support to my birth mom, helping her make plans for our future.
I was taken to Living Alternatives Maternity Home, Fatherheart, so that Vanetta could help care for me during the day. She was trying. She was working through what being a parent was going to like for her.
During this process, she hit a crisis point.
The plan she originally had hoped for wasn’t working anymore. Eventually, she asked if someone else would continue to care for me while they worked on a different plan for her to be able to parent me.
“I Loved Her from the First Moment”
“I loved her fully and completely from the moment I first held her. Understanding that it could be just for a moment, a short season, or even a lifetime.”
That’s how Carol describes it when Vanetta eventually asked her to adopt Lexie. Carol says in her heart she felt like God was saying:
“I’m going to give you the thing you hoped for, dreamed for, believed for — the thing you had faith for.”
Lexie was a child hoped for. Prayed for. Longed for — for 15 years.
“A longing I never knew would be fulfilled.”
She describes Lexie as:
“The substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen in my life.”
Love Motivated
When a mother makes an unselfish decision to place her child in an adoptive home, it is love motivated.
Lexie’s story isn’t about abandonment.
It’s about courage.
It’s about surrender.
It’s about love.
“I believe that because of the love of Vanetta, God has incredible things for Lexie — far beyond what we could think or imagine. I think she’ll change the world.”
These words aren’t just for Carol, but thoughts and prayers she shares with Lexie’s birth mom.
God’s Idea of Family
“I have a deep, fiery passion to see the lost become found. To see children placed in their forever families. And most importantly, to see those who have gone the wayward path finally come back home and find the arms of their loving Father.”
Lexie points to those imperfect stories in Scripture — stories like Solomon, Joseph, and Ruth. None of them had simple beginnings. However, in each one, you see something beautiful:
God’s idea of family.
He brings a village.
He brings a community.
He surrounds broken stories with redemption.
That’s how He designed family to be.
A Legacy That Lasts
Watching Lexie inspires her family to believe that God does beautiful things with hard things.
We are so thankful at Living Alternatives to be part of those hard-and-beautiful stories every day.
Supporters of Living Alternatives are sowing seeds that last for generations.
Lexie is living proof.
