In 2010 the Judge of Smith County’s family court requested Loving Alternatives’ help in locating adoptive homes for children who were legally free for adoption. Although free for adoption, the children were stalled in foster care as a result of government bureaucracy, which is complicated and moves slowly. Sometimes too slow for school aged children end who end up “aging out” in foster care. God designed and called parents to raise children not the government. We as God’s people responded to the door that was opened to find ‘families’ for 107 children who otherwise may have still been in foster care. This was the initial launch of the “ForThe1″ program, which operated until 2019 when the Judge retired.
Although we no longer recruit and train families for children in CPS conservatorship, we continue to assist CPS when requested and if we have a viable placement option. We also provide home studies for hopeful adoptive families who have found children on the Texas Adoption Resource Exchange (TARE) website.
