29 Jul From Crisis to Calling | Lorin’s Story
Every year, countless women in East Texas walk through crisis pregnancies, and many carry the weight of a past abortion in silence. At Living Alternatives, we believe no one should walk through that alone—and no story is too broken for redemption.
Our Executive Director, Lorin, knows this journey firsthand. Before she ever led this ministry, she lived the very crisis Living Alternatives exists to walk alongside. In this short video, she shares her testimony of two crisis pregnancies, the abortions that followed, and the unexpected grace that met her in the aftermath. It was God’s grace that ultimately led her into the work Living Alternatives does today in pregnancy support and ministry to families across East Texas.
Why I Do What I Do.
When people ask me why I do what I do, the answer is simple: because of my own story.
Years ago, I walked through my own crisis pregnancies and had two abortions. I know what it feels like to carry shame, guilt, and brokenness. That’s why I have such compassion for the women and men God brings through the doors of Living Alternatives. My greatest desire is for them to experience the same grace and forgiveness that transformed my life.
During one of the most painful seasons of my life, I had a friend who was a Christian. She never gave up on me. She continued to pursue me with unconditional love, even in the middle of my mess. Yet it was ultimately through my own devastation, guilt, and desperation that I came to Christ.
One passage of Scripture that has always resonated with me is in Luke 7, where a woman known for her sinful life came to Jesus and broke an alabaster jar of perfume. She wept at His feet, washed them with her tears, dried them with her hair, and kissed them. So many times, I have felt like that woman—overwhelmed by the forgiveness and mercy of Jesus.
At the end of the story, Jesus says, “I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven—as her great love has shown. But whoever has been forgiven little loves little.” (Luke 7:47)
That verse has shaped my life. I love Jesus deeply because I know how much He has forgiven me. Everything I do is simply an offering of gratitude to the One who redeemed my life.
He is worthy of it all.
Want to Be Part of This Story Too?
Lorin’s journey from crisis to calling is a picture of what’s possible when compassion meets purpose. At Living Alternatives, we see that same transformation happen every day—in the lives of the moms, dads, and families we serve, and in the lives of the volunteers who show up to love them well.
If Lorin’s story stirred something in you, there’s a place for you here. Whether it’s mentoring a mom through Building Blocks, serving as a Fatherheart house parent, praying over our ministry in our dedicated prayer room, or simply lending a hand around our properties—every kind of “yes” matters.
