I just want to hear the heartbeat today!

“Our Mobile Center, Ruth, was parked at the downtown Tyler Walmart when I met Natalie and Kurt. As we huddled under the canopy, Natalie told me, “I really need a pregnancy test. I tried to make an appointment at three different OB/GYN offices weeks ago, and they were all too full or too busy. I am near my second trimester, and I don’t know if the baby is okay!”

Kurt explained the couple and their two young sons had recently moved from out of state. Kurt worked as a mechanic, and Natalie stayed home with their preschool son. They had settled into a friendly church.

They were concerned because Natalie had a miscarriage during her first pregnancy.

“I just want to hear the heartbeat today!” Natalie exclaimed.

We confirmed Natalie’s pregnancy and brought the couple into Ruth’s ultrasound room. At 10 weeks gestation, an active baby appeared on the screen and showed us a good heartbeat.

Wiping happy tears, Natalie and Kurt shared hugs and thank yous with us before they left.

To all appearances, Natalie and Kurt had everything a couple could need⏤marriage, healthy children, a stable income, a nice house, and a good church. As we prayed that morning for God to bring us those who most need us, I did not envision anyone like them.

But God did.”
