It is hard to believe that I have been the Executive Director of Living Alternative for just a little over seven months. I love what I am doing, now serving in a different capacity than I ever have in my 32 years in ministry. We look forward to 2023 with renewed hope and fresh starts!

I can’t help but see the goodness of God as I reflect on all He has done and is continuing to do. A few weeks after I stepped into my new role, Roe v. Wade was overturned, which brought an incredible response from our East Texas community, with volunteers stepping up to serve at Axia and generosity through financial giving. We also began seeing an increase in the number of women and families seeking our services as they navigate an unexpected pregnancy.

Looking back on 2022, we are encouraged at how God has used this ministry to reach our community. We were able to help 400 women who lacked support and were in vulnerable situations receive needed resources. We did 935 pregnancy tests and 603 ultrasounds, along with passing out 533 packs of diapers and 1400 baby outfits. Our birthing class helped 32 moms-to-be prepare for labor and delivery. Fatherheart has been home to 10 moms and their unborn children, and our aftercare program is packed with new moms and their babies. In addition, our end-of-the-year giving was the most it has been in several years!

Things are not slowing down in 2023! We have started this New Year with our mobile unit adding Lindale to the locations served, along with Athens, Marshall, Henderson, and North Tyler. Many women we assist are going through their pregnancy and birth alone. Our Better Together program offers Doula training for volunteers who want to support these women. Our next Doula class will be the largest one we’ve had since beginning this program. In the last week, we have had several inquiries about Fatherheart Maternity Home.

We continue to serve the women and families God sends our way, responding with His love to see them through difficult times. We can’t fix all their problems, but we can point them to the One who can.

“Now all glory to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us” (Eph. 3:20).

We are eager to see all God has for Living Alternatives in 2023!
