24 Jul Speaking Truth to the Scared and Confused
A few weeks ago, one of our staff received a message from a young man named Corey. She had known Corey since he was a boy. Over the years, she had watched him face challenges, but she had also seen a tender, compassionate heart that was quick to care for others.
This time, Corey reached out because his girlfriend had just found out she was pregnant. Multiple tests had confirmed it. They were scared and overwhelmed, with no jobs, no car, and no clear path forward. Corey didn’t know what to do, so he reached out.
That evening, our staff member picked him up. His face carried the weight of the situation. He was hurting, his voice breaking as he repeated, “I don’t want her to do this. I just want her to know there’s another way.” He wanted her to come talk with us, to see she wasn’t alone, to know there was hope.
But fear was speaking louder to her than hope. She had already decided to travel to New Mexico for an abortion and didn’t want to hear anything more. We set a time for her to come and talk, but she never came. In the end, she followed through with her plans.
Corey didn’t support her decision, not out of anger or judgment, but because he believed there was life inside her. He was ready to step up and walk with her, even though his own heart was breaking.
Our hearts broke for both of them—for the pain she is now carrying, for the weight on his shoulders, and for the helplessness so many young people feel when they face moments like these.
This is why Living Alternatives exists.
We are here for those who are scared and confused. We are here to speak truth, to offer hope, and to walk with them through the hardest moments of their lives.
Whether it is the young woman who feels she cannot continue her pregnancy, or the boyfriend desperately trying to hold her together, they are not alone. We stand in the gap. We walk beside them. And we point them toward life.
“Rescue those being led away to death; hold back those staggering toward slaughter.”
Proverbs 24:11 (NIV)
Please continue to pray for us as we serve the ones God sends our way. May we always be ready to meet them with compassion, clarity, and truth.
Every life is sacred. Every story matters.
